Dazed and confused, I was running back and forth to the laptop with sticky hands, mixing up a new tote.
The 1/2 drill isn't cutting it anymore, I need a trolling motor.

I start with water, then add 10 lb. sugar and stir. 10 more and stir. ETC.

It's nice to have someone to pour for you too!
I got tired of stopping to pour more sugar and clamped the drill to the wall, trigger locked on.
By the time I got to the third bag it came loose!
I ducked for cover until it pulled the cord out of the wall.
Looked like a gator thrashing around in there. Ha Ha :-D

i  just pour 25 lbs of sugar in the bucket then 2 gallons of water and mix it with a paint mixer on my drill. yeah its not quite 2:1 but its close and easier to disolve than 25lbs of sugar to 1.5 gallons of water...

Most people use a gas powered mortar mixer from Northern Tool or somewhere like that.

Once mixed in buckets i open feed with multiple buckets to give plenty of room for the bees. I have been told by Allen Dick that a 55 gallon drum is good for about 20 hives... so its just easier for me to keep it all in buckets...

i mix 50lbs of sugar with 3 gallons of water and it produces about 6 gallons of syrup.  2:1

 I have a hose off a hot water heater for mixing. I have been mixing it in containers this year and loading them into the pickup to haul.
Now I'm needing something larger and going to mix it and leave it on the trailer. So, I guess a 55 gallon drum setup is what I'm planning for next season.
How are you people mixing it in the drum ?
What's the mix for 55 gallons ?

The trolling motor sounds like the ticket, I can run the foot pedal while pouring it in.
Next, need a source for 50 lb bags of sugar. All I find is 25 lb. bags locally.

Price it out. I have found 5 five pound bags were cheaper than 1 twentyfive lb bag in many stores.
Check all sizes per pound price. I prefer smaller bags if the price is right. It gives the mixer time to dissolve the sugar before it piles up.

I guess I mix mine backwards, but the bees still take it just the same :-D.  I put as much sugar in a container, to what ever quantity I want to end up with...1 qt, 1 gal or 5 gal.  Than add hot water (boiling if you want) stirring it into the sugar until the level comes back to the level that the sugar was (draw a line if you feel you must)....2 to 1 mix for what ever quantity without any measuring.

cheapest sugar I have found is at a store called Aldi's.  2.39 for 5 pounds.  Got to be carefull of the dollar stores as they sell 3.5 lbs bags or 4 lb bags.
