Hi everyone my name is Tony and I reside in south east Queensland. I have just got my first honey bee nucleus which I placed in my new hive box.
I've had stingless native bees for a couple of years for pollination of our veggies and the novelty value. Decided to finally give honey bees a go to get some honey of my own.

Hi Tony,
How many stingless hives do you have? I've just recently split some of mine. I currently have 8 with 2 more to split.

Shane,
I have two hives at present, a Trigona carbonaria. and Austroplebeia australis. I'm getting a couple of Trigona hockingsi hives for Christmas.
Lost two caronaria hives over the last two years, not sure why though.

Welcome Tony, from another SEQ beekeepers,
I live in Brisbane but have my hives down the coast.
Good luck, I think that beekeeping in SEQ is easier than most other places in the world from readin these forums. I went from one hive in july 2010 and am not at about 6 hives and have lost two swarms in that time. Just make sure you keep the beetle traps full and checked and you should do fine.

Welcome Tony,
Another Northern Brisbane beekeeper here.... actually only just down the road from you, at Narangba. SE QLD is a good spot for raising bees, but you do need to keep up with our SHB traps. The high humidity really lets them go crazy if they get a foothold in your hives. I lost one hive a month ago in only 8 days!
Enjoy the bees!

All mine are the Trigonas. I did have some Australis hives but they all died off. I don't think the climate around here is suited to them.

Sounds good, I'll also be joining the Northside Beekeepers Assn Inc. next year.

I am a member there.... really nice club and great bunch of people. I work away a lot and therefore miss a lot of the meetings, but their open days etc are always good. Look forward to seeing you there!

Hey Steve,
I'm still learning about all types of bees at present, you should come along to Northside Beekeepers, I just purchased 2 hives off one of the members there.
I can try out help out but my knowledge is pretty limited.
Cheers,
Tony
