Title: New from GA
Post by: becky3086 on August 09, 2012, 09:38:51 pm
Hi, I am a newbie from Thomson, GA. I don't actually have bees yet. I don't know enough about keeping them to get any so I am here to learn all I can first. Thanks for having me.  :)

Welcome to the forum, Becky.  If you have any questions just ask someone here can usually answer it.  There are threads and videos here and on you tube, read and watch you will learn a great deal.  You can join a local bee club also.  Good luck with the process of becoming a beek.

Welcome to the forum and to honey bees!  Find out about your local bee clubs and when the state convention is...definitely go to the state convention for an eye-opener. ;)

Have fun!

beck3086, GO to this meeting (thanks for posting it David!)!!!!!!!!!!!!  I've never been to a Georgia meeting (I only started studying bees last summer) but if it is anything similar to the Alabama Beekeeper's Association annual meeting it will definitely be worth your time and trouble to attend.  I went to the Alabama meeting last year a couple of months before I ever got bees and then went to the Honey Bee Symposium in Auburn last February.  You'll get to talk to all kinds of folks about bees at these meetings...and they love to talk about them.  There will be keynote speakers touching on subjects of interests to everybody and there will be smaller lectures on specific subjects.  I'm sure there will be vendors present where you and look at and get a hands-on look at all the toys, er,...tools and equipment that you see in the magazines.  There will be books that you can thumb through to see if you want to buy.  Protective clothing to get a "feel for". All kinds of things.  The meetings (both large and small) have had good food, too!!!  :-D   It's really worth it to go...you'll definitely be fired up when you leave!  :th_thumbsupup:

Best wishes!
Ed
