The Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission has approved an application to place a marker at the birthplace of L. L. Langstroth, the Father of American Beekeeping, on 106 S. Front St. in Philadelphia.
L. L. Langstroth's grandfather was a papermaker who came from Langstrothdale in Yorkshire, England.  There is a plaque at the old church at Hubberholme which reads as follows:
"RESTORED BY THE LANGSTROTH'S OF USA IN MEMORY OF LANGSTROTH'S OF LANGSTROTHDALE."
The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild, working to encourage and promote urban beekeeping through fellowship and education, and to raise awareness of the importance of bees to our environment, is raising funds for this marker.
