Title: Thermal Image through thick stucco
Post by: montauk170 on August 01, 2011, 06:03:14 pm
The thermal imager saved me from searching for the bees in this stucco wall. Entrance was below so I didn't know how far up the wall they went to start.
I went on a cool morning and was able to pick up the heat they produced. Very tiny colony, well, tiny because most of them were killed off from being sprayed!
The stucco wall was thick. My guess was about 1.5 to 1.75 inches thick. Could be thicker.

Your camera is really good Jack, I don't think my older one would have been able to do that.

When you get ready to retire that little piece of machinery, I'll be glad to send you an address to send it to. :D

Beautiful pic. Saves a lot of destruction.

Would be nice to own one of those. How much you pay for that one?

Don - last time you did that one behind the stone on a porch column I think you were able to pick up heat. So your model is just as good. What I wish to have is an option to change lenses or zoom. It's too telephoto and I always have to stand far back.

iddee - never retiring. I have fun playing with it at home  :-D

Allen - dang is what I said when I saw Don's first thermal images  :-D

JP - Too much but it's worth it. Around $3000. I'm not as experienced as you so this helps me minimize the destruction.

If I didn't find them with the thermal imager that day I would have drilled or cut small squares off that stucco wall to locate the bees.

I think it's time to sell my borescope which I've only used twice since I bought it.
