the " all blue" theme is a bit...how should i put it...emm, it's not easy on the eyes, new posts and things should be more obvious, anyway i find it difficult to browse normaly.

Ken:

About the password, glad you got it to work with a new password, some people MAY need to change their passwords to a higher security level (at least 8 characters, an upper case and a number) especially new members (those JUST registering now will need to do that) it is a security feature you will find nearly everywhere today - I use that same format in my workplace as a Federal Employee. I could lessen the password restrictions, but to do so would defeat the purpose of having greater security. I assume others may find a similar problem and I'll post on this issue, thanks for bring it up and glad you got it worked out.

Mici:

The color scheme is a default scheme that comes with the layout theme of the new forum. I know the two-tone brown was very easy on the eyes and practically a trademark look for the old forum. Shortly, I hope we will have the ability to NOT change themes, but have color options within the themes. You see, themes are how the buttons and features are placed and not all themes are alike, many have lots of features, some have less and tracking multiple themes and especiallt trouble shooting can be a full time job, something no one needs to deal with - it would be an administrative headache and one to the membership (imagine posting certain posts using smileys or scrolling text and other readers couldn't see any of that because of theme issues) that is something like what I'm saying.

We are addressing issues like these, and COLOR OPTIONS are very likely to come soon. The layout willl not be changing for some time - so get use to where all the tabs and buttons are, it really is an easy JUST DIFFERENT layout - and when color options come, I'll announce it. Hang in there, things will always get better. But for now, we have made substantial improvements in your personal security, elimination of spam (hopefully) and a forum that will continue to grow with few threats from the evil doers to forums.

Ken,

The help section is like a manual and although it does show the screens to make the descriptions easier to understand, the panels in the help area are not active.  To get to the active Log In screen,  either click on the login link or Login button under the beemaster.com logo.  The secret question will only work if you have defined one in your profile.

:-\ Not sure if i like the new forum, not sure if i am doing all i need to do to be able to message and ask questions, really will take a while to get used to BUT i appreciate so much your extra efforts to update and keep everything easier for the members, I know i will love it as much as always did once i get used to it, so thank you for your hard work. BUt have a feeling i will be asking a lot of questions like what is the icon for GLOW do? and Marquee? is there a section on the site to help those of us not so savy on the computer scene to learn what these mean, I don't want to send something that may not be appropriate or what i want to send...but DO want to thank you for this site, it is my MAIN source for information and soooo helpful. Sincerely, atthelake

I made a change to one of my posts regarding the brown versus the blue theme.  When I went back to make sure the modification was on the post, I did not see the italicized note that the post had been modified.  Is something not quite working right.  When I modified the post I did push the save button at the bottom then posted it, is that the correct procedure, do we save before we repost, or do we have to repost the original post, not quite sure on this matter.  Great day. Cindi,

There is a courtesy edit wait time of about 1.5 hours before a post will be marked as last edited:

There is also a edit time out of about 1 week after which, the post is no longer editable.

I am not sure if it is a problem with something on the forum or if it is on my computer.  This is what I have been experiencing for quite a few days now.

I have noticed that sometimes it takes a fairly long time for the "green bar" at the bottom of the screen to stop showing that it is loading (I'm not sure if that it what it is doing) something.  For example, tonight I made a apost and it took about 3 minutes for the post to get posted, basically my screen froze until the message was posted.  This is kind of unusual.  I just notice it takes quite a long time for many posts to even show up sometimes,  I mean longer than the usual second or two, it may sometimes take about 20-30 seconds.

Have other members made any reports of this nature?  Great day.  Cindi

Not sure what you mean by photo page, but if you mean ImageShack,  that is not part of the Beemaster server.  It is a free service that we provide a link to using. If you can not get to it, chances are their server is experiencing a problem and you'll have to wait until they fix it.

Cindi:

I just did an OPTIMIZATION TABLE PROCESS ( a feature in the forum which I figure mostly better arranges data for faster flow ) I noticed some loading lag too and now I don't see any. I'm hoping that fixes the issue - I'll add it to my weekly task list :)

John, I'm noticing that lag again in a big way, it takes forever to post and the green bar just keeps getting stuck on the 2nd or 3rd bar.  I actually lost a post because I got so fed up with waiting and thought that I could just the "back" button to go back to the forum.  I lost the post, live and learn.  I thought that it might still load the post information although I had gotten out of the screen.  Kind of frustrating.  I noticed this lag gettng worse this morning too.

Do you think that it might be something to do with my computer, maybe I should look within as well.  Great day.  Cindi

Noticed there is quite a lag with retrieving posts and sending responses to posts.  Quite annoying and has made me kind of tired of waiting.  I am sure it is something simple. If it is my computer, let me know.  Maybe I need to do something on my end.  Best of the best day.  Cindi

I have noticed a lag also on occasion it usually passes for me. Somedays it is more noticables than others. It may be a bandwidth issue.

Sincerely,
Brendhan

Cindi,

I notice you have been having troubles with PDFs and pictures as well.  All of which seem to be working fine for me.  So as Brendhan stated, it was probably a bandwidth issue, which could either be on your end or the server (or both).   But hopefully it has passed.  If not, it would indicate your end as the issue.

Robo and Brendhan.  thanks.  I will keep an eye on it.  I told my husband about this issue and he said that it may be our server and if it keeps up he will contact them to ascertain what the issue may be, because it is very irritating.  I find sometimes things are quite slow when loading my laptop some mornings in particular and this needs to be addressed as well.  Thanks.  Have a great and awesome day.  Cindi

It's not just Cindi that's noticing a lag now.  I'm seeing a significant lag in trying to open threads, yesterday I had to close Beemaster completely when I was trying to post something, it just stopped responding when I hit the Post button and wouldn't budge from that screen.  All other websites worked fine, it wasn't my connection.  Sumptins up!  :?

Eeks, I must be a complainer, I see the last post here was by me too.

I have another odd issue.  When I am typing a reply to a post, the typing window changes from a fairly narrow one to a wider one.  When I go to post it, I get a message that says "time out gateway" or something like that, then when I go to send it, it says to use the keyboard command (it just happened again while I was typing this, about 20 seconds into typing a post) alt + s to send and a couple of other keyboard combinations (not too sure what it is, it is only visible for about 2 seconds)  My end?  I know that I have obviously had problems before.  Any other members brought this to your attention or just me?  Best of the day, good health.  Cindi

Cindi,

I just checked the error log back thru March 28th (last time it was purged) and see nothing for your ID.  I know it is not much help,  but more indication that it is on your end.  Sorry.....

Maybe it's just me to notice this but Cindi has the lag and the gateway timeout issues. I think it is something with either her isp or her computer.

Robo, Brendhan, thanks.  It is certainly my problem I bet, I am going to correspond to Dell and see what I can do with them.  I have been very busy outside cause we have had nice weather and have to wait for a day when I can justify staying inside and doing "inside" stuff.  For now I won't post pictures, and still can post, it just has some annoying things happening when I post.  All have a wonderful, great day, good health.  Cindi

I think you need to rechange your bookmark address to http://forum.beemaster.com - it sounds like you have an address to our old link to the old sever, we moved about a month ago now and NO you should not have to log-in EACH time, once only with the address above. Let me know if that works, it sure should, everyone who has changed from the old to the new one, we posted several messages about it when the change was completed. Hope this fixes it. Remember to delete the old address so you don't click on it by mistake and un-log-in (sic).

Hi John,
I m new to your Forum and noticed there is no where that covers microscopy, or have I missed it?
Microscopy can cover all issues regarding pollen, diseases, anatomy etc.
I am keen on microscopy and have a selection of microscopy slides which show pollen, anatomy etc.
I did think of placing the images in the photographic section but that is so varied anything to do with microscopy would be swallowed up in hives families etc.
I am impressed with the input fom members and hope to become a valid member myself.
May I ask for your thoughts on a microscopy thread please.
Thank you for your time
Best regards,
Mo (Bcrazy)

Hi Mo:

I can't appologise enough for the time it took to make this sub-forum for the Photo Section, I moved into our new home 2 weeks ago, had PDMattox visiting, and had my laptop setup in a small room (going to be the computer/day-bed room) and I've been waiting on Central AC being installed: I've hardly been on due to the work of moving and the stuffy hot room the laptop is in.

I'm writing from work (this is my first night back since almost 3 weeks ago - and the good news is the AC unit is being CHARGED as I type this. When I get home tonight, we should have a cool and evenly chilled home, finally :)

So.... I made a sub-forum under photography, although this topic is a good one which could be under a more advanced topic such as General or if we add a Apiology Advanced Forum for those wanting a scientific studies forum.

So, it might move around someday, but it sounds very interesting, hope it works out good for you and others, and thanks for sharing the idea with us.

Can you please help me. I went to log in tonight and could not get onto the forum at all. It went back to the Guest login in page and whenever I put my password in, it would say to answer the secret question and I did answer thequestion and it accepted it, but when I tried to log in it kept saying to check my cookies. So I went and deleted all the cookies on my computer and tried to log back in. I kept going around in circles, entering new passwords, receiving new e mails sending me right back to the same place and receiving that same message again that I need to check the cookies.

After putting in numerous passwords I just gave up, but when I clicked on my icon this time I was on the forum. Only thing, I do not know how long I will be here and I do not know what my password is.

Can you e mail me at the my email address so I do not feel so alone when this happens?? I need to know exactly what my password is right now as I changed it so many times trying to log in,  and how long I am logged in for??

If you do not see me anymore on the forum you will know that I could not figure out how to log back in

Annette,

I can't give you your current password because they are stored in an encrytped format in the database, so even the admin can not see your password.  What I did though, was change it to known password and emailed that to you.   I can not help with the cookie problem though,  that is an issue with your browser.  Have you tried another browser? (Firefox, Opera)

OK I just logged on using the new password you sent to me and it worked. I will just have to see what happens. But I did go into my profile and try to change that password to one of my own and it would not recognize the password you sent to me, although I just logged on with that very same password.

Any suggestions?

Annette,

I just logged into your account with the password I gave you,  change the password to a different password, logged out, logged back in with the different password, changed it back to the password I gave you, logged out, logged back in with the password I gave you again.  It seems to be working fine.

Just make sure you are typing your new password into the Choose Password & Verify Password fields.  These must be identical and are case sensitive.  The type in the password I gave you in the Current Password field at the bottom.

I did just that and just now did it again. The password I am using to log onto the forum is not being accepted when I type it into the current password box. Crazy!!

Right now I am just going to keep the password you gave me, because I do not know what to do.

Annette,

I am at a loss as to what further I can do.  I've checked the error logs, repaired and optimized all the database tables but have found nothing. I have also had no other users report any such problem.  I know this does not help, but wanted to let you know I have tried to see if there was anything on the forum end causing this.

The only options I can suggest are:

1) Do you have fellow forum member you would trust with your account?   If so, you could ask them to log into your account and use it to see if they have the same issues.
2) Create a new account and see if you experience the same.

This would give more of an indication if it is something corrupted with your particular account (snce no one else is experiencing it, I don't think it is a base forum issue) or with your browser.   If it is your particular account,  we can dig further into migrating you to a "new" account.

I thought it might be my computer, but the same thing happened on 2 different computers at work. I had the beeforum saved on both of those computers at work and now cannot log in at work.

this is so much trouble because I keep getting bumped out every few hours and when I try to put in the password (up above where it says guest) it doesn't recognize my password now, it brings me to the place where I answer the secret question and then I have to put in the password and it is accepted there, but not up above when it says guest.
At least it is now letting me log in over there, but every few hours I have to go through this.  I was thinking of logging on with a new account, but my whole history is here and I do not want to lose all of my posts. (also my photo, goodness knows how my friend ever got that photo up there)

I am trying to have my computer guy come over and check this all out.
Thanks for your help.

Annette I didn't read the previous suggestions but have you tried clearing your cache? Have you checked your privacy settings to see what kind of cookies you are allowing, sometimes these get accidently changed. Have you installed a new anti-virus program? Check to see that Beemaster.com is in your managed sites list.

Annette,

Did this get resolved?  Are you setting session length to "forever" when you log in?

Yes I always set it to forever.

My computer guy came to my house and changed some settings on the browser and swore to me that I will never get bumped off again and I have not. But strangely enough I cannot log in at work using my password. I get those same strange messages at work saying to check the cookies.

Now I wonder if I will ever be able to log in anywhere else again. Like when I visit my brother in New Jersey I like to check out the forum when I am there and I wonder if I will be able to log in over there>

Thanks for your help and I hope and pray I can remain on here without disappearing.

This is good for Annette that she has her home computer fixed.  But the issue is not solved yet.  It needs to be found out why she cannot log in at work, and I know she loves to spend time with her Brother, and go on our forum here.

Come on.  Isn't there somewhere where she can get some intense help from a computer geek to help her to "totally" get the issue resolved.  Someone must know a link to where she can get help, or someone can help her out.  Things are not settled and she needs 100% resolution to this problem.   Have a great and most wonderful day, Cindi

This is good for Annette that she has her home computer fixed.  But the issue is not solved yet.  It needs to be found out why she cannot log in at work, and I know she loves to spend time with her Brother, and go on our forum here.

The question is what did the computer guy do to her home computer to fix it there?  If I had to guess,  I would speculate it was a broswer or firewall issue.  Then the questions arises to how the settings got "screwed up" and I would venture a guess that some application/pop-up/virus changed it and Annette did not manually change it herself.  I'll then venture to postulate that she has the same surfing/viewing habits at work and the same application/pop-up/virus did the same there.

Other than speculating,  there is not much I can do.  The fact that the computer guy fixed it on her end proves it is not a forum issue, but a personal computer setting issue.   Even if he had changed settings on her beemaster account (which I'm sure he didn't),  the fact that it works on her home now says the beemaster account is OK.  I would also venture to say she will be able to log on while traveling.

Cindi, it is nice you are trying to get Annette help,  but other than taking guesses (and I think we have exhausted them), there is not much any of us here can do since we have no access or understanding of her computer.  Her computer guy is her best bet at this point.

My car has an ooogy noise coming from the thingy and stalls after 1 hr can you fix it for me?  - Get my drift ;)

Rob, oh I get such a kick out of you!!!  You make me laugh, I kid you not!!!!!  To elaborate a little here -- I wasn't referring to you "having" to try really hard to fix Annette's stuff, I meant if you could get a link to someone that could help.  But then, thinking about it, unless one is working right there with her computer, you are 100% bang on, it is like a needle in that haystack  :(  She does need to get more information from her computer guy, I agree.

Now about your car, that ooogy noise and stall after one hour.  Sorry.  I can't help you there,  :-X :-D  ;) :) :) :).  I could only venture a guess  :-\  :) :) :).  I think you got some alien stuff goin' on in there, abducted?  Have a most wonderful day, love our life.  Cindi

Rob, what a guy!!!  Are you for real?  Did you REALLY carry that nuc on the back of your bike?  I think you are plain and simply, ding dang, out of your mind!!!  Smiling, that big smile.  Have a most wonderful and oh that most awesome day, Cindi

Actually yes, it was sort of a freak incident and not planned.  I went over to a beeyard to just install the nicot box for a 24hr cleaning before I contained the queen in it.  But I found capped queen cells that where just about to hatch, so I put together 2 nucs and bought them home.

After all, it is not a Harley,  so the ride wasn't rough for them at all, nor was I worried about getting stranded along the road :-P

Rob, OK so that is really cool.  I like your bike, any kind of bike is a wonderful thing, anything that rides on two wheels (well, three wheels is cool too).  I think it was just such a great picture and made my imagination run wild!!!  Have the most wonderfully awesome, great day, Cindi

OK I will have my computer guy take a look and see what could be causing this, but seems strange it happened at work also.

Annette

Hey Annette did you ever think your boss might have a computer guy too. It could be he would rather have his employee's doing constructive work on his dime rather that having them surf the internet? Perhaps the boss had his computer guy make a few changes to his list of blocked sites rather that come right out and confront you about what you need to be doing on his time. I know when I was still working at the local school system there were very few sites that weren't blocked from student or employee access.  ;)

I work in a big hospital and my direct supervisor allows us to surf the internet when we are not seeing patients. Heck she is on the web all the time.

Yes, we are experiencing some software issues with the forum and the chat has been disabled as part of the troubleshooting.
